Mounting and Installation
First and foremost, these units, including the moisture sensor are designed to be mounted outside, against the side of your home. For reliable snow and rain detection, the moisture grid must be mounted so that it is exposed to a clear view of the sky.
In order to prevent ice buildup in your gutter, install the sensor inside the gutter as indicated above. What happens is that when snow is melted from the roof and the water hits the sensor, it will trigger the unit and keep your gutters clear from potential ice build-up. When installing in this fashion, mount the sensor against the fascia board with a 1” C” size conduit clamp.
You can install in your downspout as well, keeping the sensor facing up inside the downspout and near the top. As melted snow goes from your gutter into the downspout, the unit will activate when water hits the sensor. When installing in this fashion, mount the sensor against the fascia board with a 1” C” sized conduit clamp.
